Sobre a presença de Barack Obama no Brasil:

O presidente Barack Obama, primeiro negro a dirigir o império estadunidense, estará no Brasil nos dias 19 e 20 de Março. Ironia do destino, véspera do dia 21 de Março, quando se celebra o Dia Internacional de Luta pela Eliminação da Discriminação Racial.

Mas, o que tem a dizer os movimentos populares e, especialmente, o movimento negro brasileiro diante da presença de Obama no Brasil?

Para nós, da UNEafro-Brasil, apesar da importância simbólica e histórica de sua eleição (afinal, trata-se de um negro dirigindo um país com histórico de preconceitos e perversidades acentuadíssimas contra a população negra), Barack Obama não surpreendeu e simplesmente manteve a imposição da cartilha capital-imperialista dos EUA ao resto do mundo.

Para dentro de casa, a política de Obama impõe a violência, a tortura, a prisão e a morte. Os EUA detém a maior comunidade carcerária do mundo. Destes, maioria esmagadora de negros e outros tantos condenados foragidos ou respondendo a processos.

A crise econômica que mina a sociedade norte-americana não é novidade para os negros estadunidenses, que vivem em regiões que continuam a ser os “bairros dos negros”, onde os serviços públicos são precários e onde os empregos são os piores e mal pagos.  Múmia Abul Jamal, símbolo internacional na luta do povo negro continua no corredor da morte e o Sul dos EUA, empobrecido e abandonado, sofre ainda com os efeitos do furacão Katrina, além da presença permanente das organizações racistas, inclusive remanescentes da Ku Klux Klan.

Para fora, a política militarista e as articulações lobistas continuam. Obama mantém a prisão de Guantánamo e o embargo imperialista a Cuba; O apoio à manutenção das tropas estrangeiras no Haiti, além da permanente intervenção militar na América Latina a partir do cooptação dos governos do México e da Colômbia. A mesma lógica imperialista se mantém no oriente médio, onde os EUA colocam seus interesses econômicos acima da autonomia e da cultura dos povos daquela região.

Diferente do que gostaríamos, Barack Obama, o primeiro negro a ocupar a chefia do império estadunidense se comporta como um branco, governa como um branco e impõe seu poder, como comandante da maior potência econômica mundial (apesar da crise), como se fora um velho Ianke.

Por estar a serviço do capitalismo e dos interesses das megacorporações econômicas do mundo; Por dar continuidade à política imperialista e racista centenária dos EUA; Por empregar, direta ou indiretamente, políticas de genocídio e extermínio em todo o mundo, em especial na África, América Latina e em países do Oriente Médio, Barack Obama não nos representa e não pode ser considerado um de nós!

Fora Obama, traidor do povo negro no mundo!

Open Letter on Barack Obama’s visit to Brazil

President Barack Obama, the first black person rulling the US empire, will be in Brazil through March 19th to 20^th.  Irony of fate, his visit happens one day before we celebrate the United Nations International Day Against Discrimination. What do we – social movements, and mainly the black movement - have to say about Obama’s visit?

While UNEAFRO-BRASIL acknowledge the symbolic and historical dymension o f Obama’s election (given the  legacy of discrimination and racial violence against the black population in the US), he does not represent changes in the US imperial and capitalist mode of domination to ‘the rest of the world’.

Regarding its internal politics, Barack Obama’s government reinforces and reproduces violence, torture, prison and death, as the US prison industrial complex exemplifies. The United States remains, under Obama’s, the larger penal democracy in the world, with as much as 2.5 million people behind bars, the majority of them Black and Latino youth.

The economic crises that has become a nightmare to the US white civil society is  not new to the black and latino ghettos where its population live in a perpetual state of sierge, without access to public education, employment, state facilities and so on.

Múmia Abul Jamal international symbol of the black people struggle of liberation continues in the death row, Assata Sakur, the Black Panther Party leader continues living in exile, and the Black South of the US continues under an structural marginalization as Katrina’s un-natural disaster and the state aftermaths (non)responses suggests. Indeed, criminal organizations such as the Ku Klux Klan and the rampant explosion of Anti-Immigration Groups in the Mexican-US border remind us of the continuity of the state-sponsored racial terror in the ‘land of freedom’.

Regarding its foreign policies, the militarist approach endures under Obama’s administration as well. Contrary to his promises, Obama maintains Guatanamo prison and did not take step further to end the imperialist embargo against the Cuban nation. Also, he supported the military occupation of Haiti, the cup against the government of Manuel Zelaya in Honduras, the permanent intervention in Latin America through the interference and cooptation of Mexican and Colombian government. The same logic guides Obama’s ambivalent approach in the Midle East where he support authoritarian regimes according to the US interest, denies the Palestinian right to exist and prevent  the Arab people be the owner of its own destiny. 

Contrary to what we would like to believe, Barrack Obama, the first black president in the history of the white imperial power, behaves as a white, governs as a white and - as commander in chief of the world economic and military power - imposes US war machine as an old Yankee.

For being a representative of capitalism and the economic interests of giant corporations in the world; for continuing the imperialist and racist U.S  policies; for directly or indirectly employing/encoraging genocidal practices around the world, especially in Africa, Latin America and the Middle East; finally for lending his black face to the white imperial power, Barack Obama does not represent us and can not be regarded as one of us!
